2024 Calls - update July 2024

Procedure to leverage joint research activities 2024

EU GREEN has established a yearly joint procedure for proposals to stimulate research collaboration among our 9 universities. Researchers from EU GREEN partner universities can submit proposals for seed funding. This procedure, implemented by the Work Package Research (WP3), is intended to leverage cooperation between researchers and create new or consolidate existing scientific relationships. Its vision is to build robust scientific communities among the EU GREEN universities.

There are 3 pillars for the 2024 call:

  1. Incentive for collaborative research activities, up to 20,000€
  2. Researcher mobility program, up to 2000€ per mobility per person
  3. EU GREEN Scientific conferences, up to 10,000€

When applying, you will choose one of the pillars and will have a dedicated application form.

EU GREEN specific Doctoral allowance - update to come September 2024

In addition to the European Commission call, the university of Angers raised complementary funds through the ANR (French National Agency of Research Support) within the France 2030 program. This allows a co-funding for this PhD funding, and to develop collaboration between our universities.

In 2024, the equivalent of four doctoral contracts full time (8 half-thesis) will be financed by the University of Angers (UA). The projects shall be codirection theses between UAand at least one partner from EU GREEN (in case of co-tutelle, UA will only finance the part of the PhD spend in UA). The theses’ topics must belong to the scope of at least one of the 6 EU GREEN clusters.

Q&A 2024

  • [MOBILITY] Is the validation of someone necessary to go forward with the application?

Yes, you have to provide the acceptance proof of acceptance of the director of the host research center (p. 6 of the bills of specifications)

  • [INCENTIVE FOR COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH PROJECTS] How many partners have to be involved?

At least three partners (meaning EU GREEN universities) should be involved

  • [MOBILITY] Should it be included in a project that foresees more than one visit or can it also fund a single visit of a researcher to another EU GREEN University?

There is nothing mandatory regarding the number of future mobilities. What is evaluated in the applicaiton is the will to build and/or strengthen collboration between the EU GREEN universities.

  • [INCENTIVE FOR COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH PROJECTS] Which potential European projects applications will be valued ?

All potential application to European projects will be valued in the applications.

  • [INCENTIVE FOR COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH PROJECTS] Could the PI/main project leader of the proposal be a technician or administrative staff?

No, the PI must be a researcher.

  • [INCENTIVE FOR COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH PROJECTS] What is the process for writing the cluster' opinion ?

It’s up to the clusters to define an internal process.

  • [INCENTIVE FOR COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH PROJECTS] Does the criterion "number of EU GREEN partners" mean that the more EU GREEN partners are involved in the proposal, the higher the score in this criterion?

This criterion takes into account both the number of partners (min. 3) and the relevance of the implication of these partners.

  • [INCENTIVE FOR COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH PROJECTS] Is double financing with European funds allowed?

The same expense cannot be double funded. However, you can have complementary funding: one part can be financed through seed funding and the other by another European funding.

  • [JOINT RESEARCH ACTIVITIES ] [MOBILITY] How many projects will be accepted for these calls?

The number of accepted projects will depend on the quality of the submitted projects. However, the set maximum is 10 mobilities per year per university and 9 projects per call for the seed funding.

  • [MOBILITY] Who is eligible for the researcher mobility program?

The mobility program is devoted to permanent and temporary staff (PhD, researchers, technical and administrative staff). Master students are also eligible ie for internships.  You have to check your internal rules, but EU GREEN allows their participation.

  • [MOBILITY] How do I calculate my carbon footprint?

  • [ALL PILLARS] Is the selection process similar for the seed funding and the researcher mobility program?

For 2024, the evaluation of the joint researcha activities call is common within EU GREEN partners. It will be done by the JRC, following the calendat provided in the bill of specification.

  • [MOBILITY] How do the candidates find for a partner?

Contact eugreenwp3@univ-angers.fr  (eugreenwp3 @ univ-angers)to explain your area of interest and a link to a CV in English to be put in contact with relevant researchers.

  • [MOBILITY] Do we need to provide formal letters signed by the rectors in order to have a frame for the mobilities?

A detailed opinion has to be provided, other documents are not mandatory

  • [ALL PILLARS] Regarding carbon footprint, what does it include?

    It only includes mobility.

  • [FRENCH DOCTORAL ALLOWANCE] What is the duration of a PhD in the frame of the doctoral allowance?

    It is 3 years.
