3-Minute Fame, a contest to pitch your thesis in 3 minutes

The "3-Minute Fame" contest is a unique opportunity for PhD students of the EU GREEN alliance to showcase their thesis by presenting it in a maximum of 3 minutes in a concise and engaging manner to a diverse audience. This competition, organised within the framework of WP3 Research, is an opportunity to promote scientific communication skills while strengthening links within the doctoral community of the alliance.

The event aims to:

  • Encourage PhD students to disseminate their research in a clear and accessible way in just 3 minutes.
  • Promote the creation of a European network between doctoral students and researchers from the nine partner universities of the alliance.

How to apply ?

Only for applicants to the University of Angers: reply to the expression of interest form before 17th December 2024.

For all other universities, submit your 3-minute video presenting your thesis, by February 28th, using this link.

An internal jury at each university will select the three best presentations.

Final in Parma, Italy (June 2025)

The winners of the internal phase will win their place to participate in the EU GREEN Summer School, which will be held in Parma (Italy) from 9 to 13 June 2025. This is the occasion for the final of the event “3-minute fame”, where finalists will have to pitch their thesis live in front of a EU GREEN jury.

Submissions will be evaluated according to specific criteria, such as time management; clarity of the message; the engagement of the audience, stage presence; etc. 

Conditions of participation

Presentation criteria

  • Duration: 3 minutes. Any presentation exceeding 3 minutes will be disqualified.
  • Language: presentations must be in English.
  • Visual support: only one static slide is allowed. No animation, additional media or props are allowed.
  • Notes: the use of notes is prohibited.

Eligibility conditions

The competition is open to:

  • All PhD students currently enrolled in EU GREEN partner universities.
  • Researchers who have submitted their thesis and are preparing for their defense may also participate.
  • Any thesis subject may be submitted, regardless of the discipline.

Competition Schedule

  • Deadline for registration and submission of videos: 28 February 2025. 
  • Final phase during the Summer School: 9-13 June 2025 in Parma, Italy.

Awards and recognition

  • The three doctoral students selected by each university will participate in the EU GREEN 2025 Summer School. The travel expenses covered by the alliance.
  • The finalists' videos will be published on EU GREEN’s communication channels and shared on social media.
  • All participants will receive a certificate of participation.
